What's New in Containerd 2.0 - Phil Estes, AWS & Derek McGowan, Independent

Containerd as a mature, 7-year old project is finally moving from its eight long-lived major releases branches of the "1.x" era into a new one: containerd 2.0! Earlier this year we announced an LTS release based on our 1.6.x release as a preparatory step before creating our 2.0 release. Since one major aspect of the 2.0 release will be finalizing many deprecations made in the last few years, we'll provide a readiness to upgrade checklist and talk through changes users will have to make to upgrade to the 2.0 release. We'll also give an update on the 1.6 LTS release line and make sure users have clear information on how to continue using supported containerd releases going forward into 2.0. We'll also highlight all the new features in 2.0, a handful of which have been experimental in existing releases, and help users understand what these new features enable for their use of the project. We're excited to share the progress of the containerd project with our community and users!
