Welcome for this 45 minutes Asthanga Yoga session taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is an energetic style of Yoga where the student must synchronize his breath with movements. This old and traditional kind of yoga comes from Pattabhi Jois’s teacher, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya.

The primary series of Ashtanga is my favorite session. Unfortunately sometimes I don't have 1 hour 30 minutes to pratice the whole serie. That's why I created this 45 minutes session.

This video of Ashtanga Yoga Half Primary Series is for intermediate or advanced students.

The pranayama (breath) to practice during the First Ashtanga Serie is Ujjayi breathing.

How to practice Ujjayi Breathing done in the Half Primary Asthanga Serie


First fills the lower belly (to activate Muladhara and Swadhistana)
Rise to the lower rib cage (to activate Manipura and Anahata)
Finally moves into the upper chest and throat (to activate Vishuda)


Inhalation and exhalation are both done through the nose. The "ocean sound" is created by moving the glottis as air passes in and out.


As the throat passage is narrowed so, too, is the airway, the passage of air through which creates a "rushing" sound. The length and speed of the breath is controlled by the diaphragm, the strengthening of which is, in part, the purpose of ujjayi.


The inhalations and exhalations are equal in duration, and are controlled in a manner that causes no distress.
