Dr. Theo Niewold (KU Leuven, Belgium) shares the research showing that effective growth promoters are anti-inflammatory by nature, as is evident from -omics and simple biomarkers.

Theo A. Niewold is an Immunologist/Experimental Pathobiologist by training.
From 1986-1993 (PhD in 1990), he was Assistant Professor at the Department of Veterinary Pathology, University of Utrecht, The Netherlands. The next 4 years he worked as a visiting scientist on invitation at the University ofTennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, USA. From 1996 to 2005 he was Senior Scientist in Pathobiology at the Animal Sciences Group of Wageningen University in Lelystad, The Netherlands.

Since 2005, Dr. Niewold serves as Professor in Nutrition and Health at the University of Leuven, Belgium, and has been Scientific Head of the experimental farm from 2010 to 2014. He is part of the management team of the Leuven Food Science and Nutrition Research Centre, which was launched
in 2010. Dr. Niewold is (co)author of more than 250 publications and his current research interests are pathophysiology, host-pathogen interaction, mucosal immunity, innate immunity and inflammation, functional food/feed, alternatives to antibiotics, and (intestinal) genomics, proteomics, and biomarkers in monogastrics.
