Retro-Production: Yamaha VSS-200 | Episode 2

In this second episode of Retro-Production, I take a look at Yamaha's answer to the 80's home-sampling revolution, which began with Casio's SK-1 (which we reviewed in episode 1).

The VSS-200 keyboard came out a couple of years after the SK-1, and was built on the same sampling chip as the more well-known VSS-30. It has a few more interesting features, as well as an entire FM synth engine based on the OPL2 chip (also used in many sound cards such as the AdLIb and SoundBlaster). So, how does it stack up against the mighty SK-1?

This is the second video in my new series called Retro-Production. In this series of videos, I take a look at some retro keyboards and synthesizers, put them through their paces, and then see what we can make with them when we combine their retro sounds with today's modern sequencing and production technology.
