Three traffic tickets in Washington State will get your license taken away!

Washington state has a new law (January 2023) that severely punishes drivers who get moving violation tickets. In fact, if you get 3 infractions in one year or 4 in two years, your license will be suspended for 60 days. You will also be required to take a driving class before your license will be reinstated. And, after your suspension ends, you are on a one year probationary period. If you get another ticket in that probationary period, you will be suspended again!

If you are uncertain of what is on your record, be sure to driving abstract to check. Out of state tickets are likely going to be on your record and count toward your suspension. Go to the License Express through DOL to set up an account and order your history.

Most importantly, make sure you fight those traffic tickets in Washington! Unlike people who are charged with DUI and are allowed an ignition interlock license exception to drive, people who are suspended for tickets have no back up option. And, if you drive while suspended, you will be charged with a crime (not just another ticket). Things can go from bad to worse very quickly!

We aren’t sure what the Washington state legislature was thinking on this one. If you get a ticket for failing to signal 3x you can’t drive but, if you drive impaired, you can bypass the suspension with an IID license.
