Order of the Arrow Patch Collecting

Some patch collectors focus on the Order of the Arrow (OA) and all the different events. OA patches tend to be more elaborate and use more thread colors than other types of patches. Innovations like hot needle cut, ghosting, and UV & glow-in-the-dark thread are often featured. Some patch collectors focus on lodge flaps and others on chapter event patches. The National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) tends to go all out in patch-collecting circles. With the constant flow of new OA youth, the ideals and variety are almost endless.

Do you need to be a member of the OA to collect OA patches? Anyone can collect anything they want and they don’t need to be a member of the OA or even Scouts.
Lodge Flaps – “Flap for Flap” is a good way to meet fellow scouts all over the country. Have them autograph the back so you remember them.
Annual Lodge Sets – this is very common that your lodge events run in a themed set. Most lodges fave 3 or 4 big weekends at your local camp. You may wish to collect patches you have been to.
Chapter Patches – These are good if you know the lodge well. Many collectors focus on one or two lodges and try to get everything.
NOAC – Many contingents will go all out for NOAC. Sometimes they even get in trouble with copyright and trademarks.
