Meeting Tara Strong at GalaxyCon Live - February 12th, 2022

Major CW: domestic violence, suicide, mental illness, and emotional abuse

The context of this session is that Tara Strong was the first voiceover artist I had the privilege to chat with in a virtual meet-and-greet. I was looking for a way to crawl out of my shell without being pressured to do so because it was during the time I was unemployed when the coronavirus pandemic reached CT and it shut down non-essential businesses. Strong was a super-talented actress that loved interacting with her fans at conventions and never hesitated to perform samples of her characters' voices they long admired. So when the pandemic hit, organizations like Fanmio, Colorworld, and GalaxyCon Live have worked together to abide by social distancing guidelines by making these experiences possible regardless of distance so Strong can still do that. What were missing were the selfies and the hugs; things I have yet to experience at an in-person event anyway.

During a voice chat with my ex while we were together where I talked about how happy my conversation with Tara Strong made me, he brought a thirty-second recording of a podcast Butch Hartman did with her to my attention. There, he made light of Mary Kay Bergman's death by joking that Strong was to blame for it and it killed me inside to watch it. Bergman and Strong were as close as sisters so when she lost her life, she was devastated. I made a promise to my ex that the next time I would speak with Strong, I will give her my condolences. Although I don't look at him in the same light anymore after the way he emotionally abused me and used Strong's comforting words to wash my hands of him, I was able to keep my word. I told her what I remember about Bergman was her smile in photographs. It speaks volumes on how the brightest stars are the fastest to burn out.

I apologize in advance if I don't respond to comments on this video straightaway. Depression hit me in the gut after work today and I have more important things to work on than be badgered by strangers that don't know squat about what it's like to endure this much pain. For those that do and understand it, however, thank you. :)
