WHAT ARE STASHAWAY's THEMATIC PORTFOLIOS?

Previously with StashAway, you just choose your risk index and they’ll do the investing for you.

The assets under investment could be anything depending on what they choose - consumer stocks, oil and gas, healthcare, financials, mining companies, or even REITS.

Now with StashAway's thematic portfolios you're investing in a particular industry or trend.

You get from 3 different themes depending on what aligns with your investment goals. The 3 choices you have are technology enablers, future of consumer tech, and healthcare innovation.

There's also a brand new 45% risk index that you can go too with these portfolios. The thematic portfolios start at 20% which will give you a higher weightage to what they call balancing assets which are bonds & commodities to help offset the volatility and risk in investing with these equities.

STASHAWAY THEMATIC PORTFOLIO 1: TECHNOLOGY ENABLERS

This portfolio invests in ETF’s consisting of stocks that shapes the way our future will be. Subthemes for this include AI, blockchain, cloud computing, robotics, and semiconductors.

When going for the highest risk being 45%, you’ll have roughly a 15% allocation to balancing assets while the rest goes to equities.

Since there are 2 ARK ETF’s here, Tesla is probably one of the top holdings. I’m also very impressed in the allocation towards BLOK, which essentially comprises of companies involved in crypto even though the allocation seems very small for now.

There’s also an AI, cloud computing, and semiconductor ETF which are all industries I invest in myself anyway. Some of the top held companies in this entire portfolio are Tesla, Nvidia, TSM - and some bitcoin related stuff like Grayscale BTC and MicroStrategy.


This is a very solid portfolio, and I actually hold or have once held many of the stocks that these ETF’s cover. My favourite ETF’s from this list are probably AI, cloud computing, and semis.

STASHAWAY THEMATIC PORTFOLIO 2: FUTURE OF CONSUMER TECH

This portfolio is looking at the trend of how we live our lives with ever changing technology and the companies in these ETFs are more consumer fronting.

StashAway deems this portfolio riskier, so even at max risk level of 45% we’ll still have about 30% in balancing assets.

We have 2 Fintech ETF’s here being ARKF and FINX. Its an industry I really like and I believe the future of financial services should pivot towards.

Then we have ARK’s flagship fund being ARKK. This is just what Cathie Wood’s thinks are the most innovative companies.

We also have an autonomous or EV ETF, gaming and esports, and a general internet one.

Top holdings in this portfolio here here include Tesla… again. Other than that, they have Teladoc, Square, Sea Limited, and Google which are all in my long term portfolio in Interactive Brokers as well. My favourite ETF’s here are probably ARKF and ARKK.

STASHAWAY THEMATIC PORTFOLIO 3: HEALTHCARE INNOVATION

This portfolio is deemed the safest by StashAway, with the 45% risk index having no balancing assets at all - 100% equity!

There are 7 ETF’s here, and the only ones I’m familiar with are ARKG, IBB, and IXJ. Very interesting that they have 2 separate genomics companies here in ARKG and IDNA, and they both have a ~18% weightage each.

The biotech ETF is another that I’ve been meaning to invest in since I just don’t know the intricacies of their technology and whether they’re likely to get approval.

Some of the notable top holdings in this portfolio are the usual names - Moderna, JNJ, Pfizer, and Astrazeneca.
