How to troubleshoot Dead Peavey Classic 30 tube guitar amp Tek Tip

Описание к видео How to troubleshoot Dead Peavey Classic 30 tube guitar amp Tek Tip

Another fine Tek Tip from D-Lab electronics. The EL-84 tubes are known for catastrophic failure. When they fry, internal elements will short and sometimes cause a high voltage failure, opening the 1 amp fuse. Thanks to Peavey for having that extra fuse in the design. Most manufacturers do not fuse the high voltage, so in some instances you will pop the high voltage secondary, a big bummer. Not usually an issue with tube rectifiers, since they will fold from over current conditions. But diodes will give you maximum current until something in the path opens. Tek Tip for the day, always use the proper fuse in this amp. I have replaced many power transformers in the Classic 30 line. Unfortunately the replacements are not as robust as the original, so you might be changing it again. If you need to sub in a different value fuse, go lower in value, do not go higher! This video was intended to share this subject, not calling the repair complete. I'm sure there will be other things I need to address. So dont bash me with, "why didnt you bias it" or other items not covered. That will come in future videos
