Every Mango Has an Origin Story

Mangos come in all shapes and sizes. Some are sweet, others are tart and there's even a few that resemble other fruit like citrus, coconut, or apricot. There are over 1,000 varieties of mango and every year we create and discover more. Some are found on mango hunting trips to remote parts of the world. Others are carefully cultivated in academic settings while still others are discovered randomly in people's yards. In this video I talk about the back story of a few popular mango varieties. Next time you get a mango at the supermarket it might be fun to try and identify the variety then look up it's origin story.

Midway through the vid I'm joined by tropical fruit expert Julian Lara from Lara Farms. As a teenager he was one of the first to try a Gary mango and he gives us a very interesting insider's perspective.
