Time for some more item collection. Story wise, you're not told exactly where you need to go, but your next destination is a town called Gust. I want to detour to Tunlan first and pick up a couple things.
To get to Tunlan, exit Prima and have Gobi turn into his giant fish form. Go northwest and cross a ravine separating the eastern and western seabeds. If you keep going west from the ravine, you should see a small island to your south you can exit to. Do that and Tunlan will be right in front of you.
While there's nothing to be done in Tunlan right now since the townsfolk speak the language of music, you do want to enter the palace. Head north to the people around a staircase going up and head east. You'll be able to reach another staircase going up, then go west a bit to a staircase going down, then west a bit more to a treasury room. Try to go for the far left chest and you'll be shoved down a pit by a statue.
In the room you land in, move the box right next to a man and search under it to get Rod5, the best fishing rod in the game. With this and some cheap bait, you can start collecting a few nice pieces of equipment for Ryu.
To start, warp to Tantar, then head west. Once you hit the coastline, go north to a well. Make sure Ryu is your lead character, equip him with the Rod5 & some bait (One of Prima's many shops sells some quite cheap if you need it), then fish away in the well and you'll pull out a Slab. While I don't show it off, you can check out in your Valuables tab to find out there's a secret at Ease Cave where you got the Cleansing Water. This won't be explored for a long time though.
Next, warp to Arad and exit town. Head west to the mountains, then go south. When you see a break in the mountain line, go west, then south to a well. Fish out a DragonHT from it, Ryu's best helmet.
Next, warp to Romero and have Bo as your lead character. Exit town and head west towards Karma Tower, but head west of it to some mountains. Head north, then west when there's a break in the mountain line, then south and follow the path to a well. From this one, you can fish out the DragonSD. High attack power, but rather heavy and will do a number to Ryu's agility. Still though, this opens up one final task I can do which will be worth the detour.
Remember the fork before reaching GrimFowl Woods on the way to Nabal? You can now take that western path at the fork. This leads to a dragon temple. The priest here will only allow Ryu to pass if he has the DragonSD.
The usuals are here for Ryu. A healing fountain, a chest (Mrbl2), and a boss he has to fight, Bain.
Bain's really no different than the boss Ryu had to fight at the first dragon temple. Still faster than Ryu and capable of doing criticals, but so long as Ryu has a good shield, the LifeAR, and DragonHT equipped, he can soak up the damage just fine. Hell, if you time it right and use ThrDr only when Ryu is low on health, he can very well take down Bain without having to heal once.
Ryu's reward is even more broken dragon powers. He gets upgraded versions of his three basic elemental transformations. They hit harder on top of affecting all enemies. Pretty steep ap costs though so you only want to use them when an emergency comes up (namely an opener to a boss fight).
Ryu also gets one other transformation, the Gold Dragon. This one also hits all enemies, but will only affect the undead. Doesn't have a whole lot of application sadly.
Now, to get to Gust. Warp to Tunlan and head into the ocean. Head north from the island (Either by foot or by Gobi's giant fish transformation) and find an exit there. You should see another one of those stone walls with a dragon's head carved into the wall if you're on the right track. Head east and it's a straight shot to Gust from there.
The basic idea behind the townsfolk of Gust...some of the villagers have gotten a little crazy due to a flower in the north. North is where you must go, but there's a couple things to do first.
At the Weapon Shop, there's some sizable armor upgrades, namely WorldMLs for Ox & Bo. Expensive though.
Next, the house just south of the inn has a box inside on the east side that can be moved, revealing a pit. Fall down it and solve a simple barrel moving puzzle to find a fusion specialist in the back. Have Karn as your lead character and speak to him to pick up the Debo fusion. This fuses Karn with Gobi & Ox to form a battle fish, simple as that.
The problem? The transformation can only be used underwater. Oops, I'm basically all done with underwater shenanigans except for one small detour later on.
Finally, the inn's drawer in the back of the building contains a Sash, an accessory that boosts someone's attack by 10.
When you're all done, go and save up.
