Boats destroyed in fire at Lake Wylie marina

A smoke plume could be seen rising over Lake Wylie and the Catawba River because of a fire and reported boat explosion at Terry's Marina. The fire was burning in a cove behind the marina, where boats appeared to be docked.

“It’s def out of the ordinary, started smelling smoke and seeing trucks and ambulance, emergency responder going down the road and that is when I realized something was wrong,” said Geoffrey Duckett.

Shortly after the fire started, the wind carried the smoke plume east toward Charlotte away from neighboring York and Gaston counties. The black smoke could be seen as far away as the WCNC Charlotte tower camera, which is located north of Gastonia.
