World Mental Health Day conference: An EU comprehensive approach that prioritises sound mental health for all

The European Commission commemorated World Mental Health Day on 10 October 2023, with a half-day, high-level conference in Brussels, Belgium.

Hosted by Stella Kyriakides, the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, the event highlighted the importance of good mental health.

The conference united hundreds of representatives from EU institutions, national governments, international organisations, and interested partners to raise awareness about the new approach, hear from experts and individuals with lived experiences, and exchange on good practices: mental health across all policies; promotion and prevention; equal access for all.

Mental Health Europe’s President Catherine Brogan emphasised, “Mental health is everyone’s business and we will only see an EU Comprehensive approach to mental health realised when there is a multi-annual action plan that encompasses well-defined actions, outcomes, timelines, targets, and the necessary resources.”

She added, “There is no health without mental health. We all have a role to play, every single one of us, in making sure that #mentalhealth is given priority.”
