The 2024 Toronto Oktoberfest took place at a new location - at Downsview Airport on Friday-Saturday 27-28 September. This was the 12th anniversary of the event which took place in a few different formats earlier, including in a Circus Tent at the same location. Friday had one evening session and Saturday an afternoon and an evening session.

The Concordia Club Enzian Schuplattler Verein German dance group are from Kitchener (formerly Berlin) Ontario. The group was founded in 1982 and is one of the best German folk dance groups in Canada. The Concordia Club was founded in 1873 and is one of the oldest and best established German Clubs in North America.
The world famous Oktoberfest in Kitchener, which is the largest Oktoberfest outside of Germany was started at the Concordia Club in 1967. It is a major event with many activities over a week or two, and has a big parade on Thanksgiving Day.
Authentic imported Erdinger Bavarian Weiß Beer is available now as well. Bavarian Weiß beer tastes quite differently than North American standard pilsners and has much more flavour - one might say - real beer finally ! Toronto Oktoberfest also had Erdinger, with the company sponsoring the event as well. Weiss beer used to be very difficult to find in Ontario and could be found only at some German clubs. Now it is a style of beer which is more widely available in many places and is considered a premium or beer connoisseur type of product that can be found at cooler type of venues and chic restaurants.

Before WW1 Kitchener was called Berlin, Ontario, and there are still discussions about changing its name back to Berlin, because of the controversy and also the inappropriateness of using the name of Lord Herbert Kitchener and the role he played in the genocidal Anglo-Boer war 1899-1902 which caused so much suffering. It was one of the saddest and worst cases of human rights abuse in the history of the British Empire, where over 30,000 Boer women and children died in British death camps in miserable conditions with inadequate food and sanitation. Coloured persons were also put into camps by the British and suffered as well.

Berlin in Germany was founded in 1244 and was a symbol of freedom during the Cold War and of reconciliation after it ended when the Soviets agreed to end their occupation. Berlin and Germany as a whole were re-united in 1990. The last Soviet troops left Germany in 1994. In 1945 Berlin was divided after WW2 among the Allies, with West Berlin being a US supported beacon of freedom behind the Iron Curtain. West Berlin was surrounded by a sophisticated wall and barricade system mostly to prevent people from escaping from the communist East Germany to the west. US President Kennedy made the famous statement that Berlin stood for freedom, when he said "Ich bin ein Berliner" - I am a Berliner. Later President Reagan made the famous statement in Berlin calling Gorbachev to, "Tear down this wall."
