Ford 302 Camshaft Install

Upgrades to the Ford 302 Small Block! I’m putting in the Edelbrock 2122 cam shaft, lifters, harmonic balancer, and timing chain. In this video I will be focusing on installing the camshaft.

First step was obviously to remove the original camshaft, so take a look at that:    • Ford 302 Camshaft Removal

To install the new camshaft is the reverse of removing the camshaft. There are a lot of steps, but nothing is too difficult.

1. Install the new camshaft with plenty of engine lube.
2. Install the cam shaft retaining plate
3. Install the timing chain
4. Put in the new the lifters
5. Put in the push rods
6. Tighten the rocker arms
7. Install the intake
8. Install water pump and timing chain cover
9. Install the harmonic balancer
10. Install fan belts
11. Install the mechanical fuel pump
12. Install valve covers
13. Install the coil and anything else on the intake manifold
14. Install the throttle body
15. Install the manual fan
16. Install the radiator

You’ll notice I haven’t installed the distributor. That’s because you need to prime the oil pump as a part of the break in process that I will cover in the next video.

The install is the same on the Bronco, the F150, and the Mustang. All Ford engines around this era.
