GotM BEGINNER'S Guide | Malazan Book of the Fallen | Gardens of the Moon Ep. 2

In the second episode of our Gardens of the Moon series, we go over the critical background information and discuss the key things to focus on. There is a lot going on in the Prologue and the first chapter or so, so don't get too bogged down in the details. Think about the players in broad strokes in terms of their allegiances and maximize your effort focusing on the events at the very beginning, what the empire is up to, and what is going on in Darujhistan.

The other stuff will make more sense over time and that's ok. I think of GotM kind of like a mystery. There's 2 key events that happen up front, and then the rest of the book is essentially trying to connect the dots to figure out what happened and what it means for the future.
