The Road Across New Mexico (and Texas!) | New Mexico Road Trip Vlog (Day 2)

The roadtrip continues as we push further east towards our second destination. We explore some roadside attractions, a very artsy town and stop to take in the scenery in Texas. Yes... Texas!


When we last left off, we were leaving the Glenwood, New Mexico area where we stayed at the Double T Catwalk Resort and explored the Catwalk Recreation Area. Fresh from adventure there, we set off in the car and drove east across the state towards our second destination.

Along the way we stopped at some points of interest and historic markers.

First up is a stop at the Lyons & Campbell Ranch, a historic old ranch that dates back to 1811. Constructed by Spanish soldiers, it saw occupation by Spanish, Mexicans, native Chihene N’da Apaches and then by the French and American Trappers.

After a short drive, we took a break to stretch our legs and look around the town of Silver City and take a look at some of the murals and interesting art around. It looks like a very historic and interesting town and one that will require further exploration in the future.

From there, we hopped back in car and continued onward. Interestingly to get to our destination, we had to take a quick dip into Texas. Driving past El Paso and deep into the Chihuahuan Desert. Not to miss the opportunity, we pulled over so we can say we officially stepped foot in Texas. While there we took in some amazing views of some Yucca trees and and impressive mountain range in the distance.

As we got closer to New Mexico we found out this range is the Guadalupe Mountains and drove right by as the sun set creating some impressive scenes.

Finally at nightfall, we reached Carlsbad where we checked into the Hyatt House for the night to recharge for our first exploration of Carlsbad Caverns the next day.
