Who Were Neolithic Orkney’s GROOVED WARE People?

Описание к видео Who Were Neolithic Orkney’s GROOVED WARE People?

During the Neolithic Orkney's population of farmers and pastoralists, known as the Groove ware people, inhabited extensive village settlements, built huge megalithic complexes and developed monumental funerary architecture. Neolithic Orkney was buzzing with activity, both practical and ceremonial.

In the first part of this two episode series I discuss the main features of Neolithic Orkney's settlements, including those found at the famous sites of Skara Brae and the Ness of Brodgar. In around 2500 BCE these villages were abandoned and, at least in the case of the Ness of Brodgar, a giant feast was held where hundreds of cattle were sacrificed. No-one knows why these people left their settlements, but what's for sure, is that while they were there they certainly left their mark in the landscape.
