After Baselworld 2018, no new Breitling watch of this model year has carried the importance of the 2018 Breitling Premier Chronograph 42. This stainless steel chronometer chronograph will be the volume watch within the vintage inspired 2018 Breitling Premier collection, and the Chronograph 42 will be the luxury watch that determines the ultimate success of the Premier watch line.

With a 42mm stainless steel case, Breitling CEO Georges Kern's breadwinner is off to a strong start. Artful use of late Art Deco -- possibly mid-century modern -- styling strakes on the case band speak to thoughtful design work by Breitling's style team. The tapered lugs segue cleanly to the seven link Breitling Navitimer style steel bracelet with deployant clasp.

Over its black galvanized dial, the Breitling Premier Chronograph 42 sports a box-section sapphire crystal with impressive camber; money was spent here. The dial details include all appliqué our indices with a tachymeter rehaut and Breitling "B" logo, now shorn of its wings. To be clear, the Premier is the "land" collection among Breitling's new sporting triad of land-sea-air themes. A date display anchors the dial at six o'clock, and hands with super luminova paint ensure legibility by night.

Breitling's case is water resistant to 100-meters, and the caliber within is dubbed "Breitling caliber 13." It's a Valjoux 7750 in COSC certified Swiss chronometer specification. Automatic winding, stop seconds, a quick set date, 48 hour power reserve, and tank like toughness distinguish this Swiss mechanical movement, and a custom crown created for the Breitling Premier family facilitates winding and setting of the watch.

The Breitling Premier Chronograph 42 A13315351B1A1 is encased in 42mm of stainless steel surrounding a black dial on a stainless steel bracelet. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, date, tachymeter, and chronograph. It also measures 13.9mm in thickness and 49.9mm from lug-to-lug.
