Dark Helios and Dark Flame (the boss pictured in the video) are both modeled after an Oarfish, a fish known for being really long.

Interestingly enough, Dark Helios has a second form based off "Syvalion", an old Taito game set in the same universe as "Darius". In this form, Helios becomes the dragon-like Syvalion space ship. Also, the song itself is a rearrangement of ,"Main Theme", a track from "Syvalion".
