In France following the French Revolution, there was a time of instability but one man who seized power was Napoleon. He was a skilled commander and had a number of brilliant allies who knew their way around a battlefield. One of these was Michel Ney, who was a fantastic cavalry commander and he had fought for many battles for the French. He was referred to as the last Frenchman on Russian soil, but he would meet a brutal end at the wrong end of the firing squad.

Michel Ney was a man who despite being skilled on the battlefield was seen as a man who betrayed France. Following Napoleon's second exile, Ney was arrested and was placed on trial for treason. He was then sentenced to death and was executed by a firing squad.
