Keep your pinky as close to the violin fingerboard as possible. A flat wrist will put a big space between the wrist and the fingerboard. Have your palm facing towards your face will also create a space between the pinky and the fingerboard. Rotate the palm so it faces the fingerboard--this will bring your 4th finger closer to the fingerboard.

1. Adjust the position of your thumb. Don't stretch up for the pinky. Adjust the thumb so it's across from the second or third finger. This will allow you to split the stretch so you reach back slightly for first finger and reach up slightly for the left hand pinky.

2. Adjust your left elbow. Swing the left elbow forward, this will position the pinky closer to the fingerboard and give you a better angle for the 4th finger.

3. Cure the pinky. Don't try to play with a flat pinky. A curve is much stronger, so curve your 4th finger, don't stretch for it!
