In Focus: National Credit Framework | 13 April, 2023

University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday released National Credit Framework which will allow students to earn credits for education and learning in all subjects, at all levels, and in all mediums including online, digital and blended learning.

The National Credit Framework (NCrF) has been jointly developed by UGC, AICTE, NCVET, NIOS, CBSE, NCERT, DGT, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Skill Development to achieve the vision and intent of National Education Policy. NCrF provides for Assignment, Accumulation, Storage, Transfer & Redemption of Credits. It paves way for multi-disciplinary education and empowers students through flexibility in choice of courses for choosing their own learning trajectories and programmes

The NCrF divides the learning ecosystem into eight levels, assigning credits based on learning hours from Class 5 up to PhD level. It includes 18 broad theoretical disciplines and 64 applied sciences or vocational disciplines and crafts which can be considered for credit accumulation. NCrF also evaluates out-of-classroom learning, including sports and games, yoga, physical activities, performing arts, handicrafts, and bagless days.
