There are many ways humans craft their identities, through the things we love, the places we're from, to the language(s) we speak. For Mavis Fruge and many other French speakers across the world, the French language plays a major role in her identity. Fruge founded La Table Francaise, a monthly gathering for those from all over Acadiana to speak and hear French. With guests from French princes and opera singers to locals from Arnuadville, La Table Francaise can feel like walking into a foreign country. Mavis Fruge continues to fight for the French language through community French tables, French courses, and tradition bearing such as her Acadian Brown Cotton project.
