Most of the south and the south-western part of Bangladesh is vulnerable to high-winds and frequently visited by cyclones and tropical storms.

In 2009, May 25 the coastal belt of Bangladesh were hit by cyclone Aila. More than 250 people died and about 250 thousands of houses were destroyed during that time. It is easily understood that if these people's houses could withstand the storms of some sort could result in much lesser casualties. Now there are upgraded techniques that are helpful to strengthen the houses and grow food in these adverse living conditions.
