Debabrata Biswas is a known legend in the world of Rabindra Sangeet. He was born in the year 1911 in Barishal. This was the time King George v was visiting India for the Delhi Durbar. Thus he was nick named George. He was popularly called George Biswas and George-da which means Brother George. His music though not always technically sound was known for his superb expression and emotional depth. Debabrata Biswas is considered as a jewel in the history of Bengali Songs as well as a king pin for popularizing Rabindra Sangeet. His early renditions of Tagore Songs shows a brilliant full throated robust vocal expression as well as a strict adherence to the traditional rules and norms written and written, which he broke on the later half of his life.
