Visualization of the temperature and the velocity magnitude at 75 m depth of a simulation with a coupled global setup of ICON/ICON-O at a horizontal resolution of ~5 km. The temperature is encoded by color while the velocity magnitude can be depicted by height mapping of the flow field (ParaView: Extrusion Surface).

The simulation was carried out on DKRZ's supercomputer Levante.The visualization covers more than 5 simulated years and is based on daily data.

In contrast to the respective visualization of the velocity magnitude at the ocean's surface, the temperatures and the flow field at 75 m depth are much less dominated by weather pattern. However, the influences of strong storms such as hurricanes are even at this depth depictable.
