We have choses to use aflalfa/grass bales instead of straw bales, because we would rather not use commercial fertilzers to condition a straw bale for growing plants.

The alfalfa will provide the fertilizer and nutrients needed as it breaks down. Supplying the tomatoes with constant access to what it needs to produce healthy fruit.

We also added winecap mushroom mycelium to see if it will help break down the hay bale faster for easier access to the nutrients. Plus who doesn’t like the added bonus of mushrooms to harvest!
