On a gloomy Sunday afternoon, we decided to check out the Hatea Loop Walkway starting from Whangarei Town Basin since we haven’t really been around most of Whangarei city center.

Restaurants, cafes and specialty shops can be found alongside the marina at the Whangarei Town Basin which is located at the heart of the city. It is also where you could find the Claphams National Clock Museum and Whangarei Art Museum.

The Hatea Loop Walkway is a 4.2km long track around the Hatea River that offers attractive scenery while strolling and can be accessed at several points. The Hates river bridges are also a part of it.

Along the walkway, there are interesting heritage panels and sculptures. The Hatea Loop Walkway at the Whangarei’s Town Basin is a favorite among families to take their little ones out for a bike ride or give the dog a runaround even on a cloudy afternoon like this.
