With the first two album releases, it was becoming clear that John was establishing himself as the group's more prominent lead singer. The next four releases in 1964 would demonstrate that this trend would only get stronger. John was ready to establish himself as the group's unquestionable and natural leader, whether he was the main vocalist or the songwriter. At this point, even the other Beatles agreed that John was their leader.

It was their music. It was only after some guy in The London Times said there were aeolian cadences in 'It Won't Be Long' that middle classes started listening to it - because somebody put a tag on it."
