A neighborhood tour to compete with Pacific Heights | Living in Forest Hill San Francisco

Описание к видео A neighborhood tour to compete with Pacific Heights | Living in Forest Hill San Francisco

Forest Hill was one of the early 1900’s Streetcar Suburbs that were designed in San Francisco for the elite to live outside downtown while having easy access to get downtown in a hurry if needed.

These park like settings created peaceful neighborhoods, seemingly in the middle of nature. Today, it’s right in the center part of the city with east access into downtown or down the peninsula.

Forest Hill was designed with a clubhouse, whose famous architect was Bernard Maybeck. A staple in many San Francisco and Bay Area designs, this one was storybook inspired and you’ll notice many of the homes went along with the same theme. The homes in the neighborhood certainly aren’t cheap, with recent sales between $1.6M- $4M.

It’s known as a streetcar suburb because in the early half of the century neighborhoods were built at the end of streetcar lines, many of which were removed in the 1950’s. In 1942, San Francisco had 45 streetcar lines and by 1954 there were merely 7 lines still in operation. These lines were replaced by buses of General Motors and Ford, and the lines that remain were too narrow for bus drivers to navigate. Saved by the tunnel!

I hope you enjoy this introduction to Forest Hill, a neighborhood often overlooked by many but should certainly be considered by all who want to move to San Francisco from a suburb.
