If you’re having difficulties priming, it can be frustrating trying to figure out what the issue is. Luckily, by inspecting 5 key areas of the pump, you can troubleshoot the issue to find a solution to get you back to priming in no time. Greg from Graco joins us to run through the five areas you should inspect if your pump is having issues with priming. Key areas to check to detect priming issues
In the video, Greg identifies the below areas as important parts to check when detecting priming issues. He runs through some of the common issues with each part that may affect the sprayer’s priming capabilities, and how to address each issue.

Inlet strainer
If the inlet strainer is blocked, it will greatly reduce the pump’s ability to prime

Suction hose
Air leaks on the suction hose can also affect the pump’s ability to prime.

Inlet ball
If the ball and seat are obstructed by foreign matter or worn to the point where the seal no longer works, the paint will run back up.

Pump
You can determine if the pump requires servicing by checking if it holds pressure under load. If the pump doesn’t hold pressure, it may require its packings to be replaced.

Prime valve
Sometimes blockages may occur in the prime valve. If you have checked all the other areas and you feel as though there may be an issue with the prime valve, you can remove the prime valve with a spanner to inspect it. By giving the valve a thorough clean, you may be able to fix the issue.
