A Saturday Morning at Newport (ft the Tait's) - Metro Trains Melbourne

Описание к видео A Saturday Morning at Newport (ft the Tait's) - Metro Trains Melbourne

In this video we visit Newport; a busy station in Melbourne's west that serves as the junction for the Weribee and Williamstown lines, and services that use the Altona Loop. We see some trains at the station on a Saturday morning, seeing a variety of different Werribee line trains, and three-car trains on the Williamstown shuttle.

We mostly see a variety of different Comeng and Siemens trains, with a lone X'trapolis also making an appearance. We also catch a glimpse of the Mildura Fruity freight train operated by Pacific National. At the end of the video we see the train everyone came out for; the vintage Tait electric multiple units. Having been built between 1910 - 1952 the wooden bodied trains were among Melbourne's first electric trains.

The train was recently restored by the dedicated volunteers at Elecrail, and was undergoing some test runs along the Werribee line. Due to some technical problems the test run on this particular day departed Newport late and only completed a handful of the planned test runs. After heading off to do something else, by chance I happened to be back at Newport just as the train was concluding the day's test. Hence we see the train arrive and depart platform 2 while heading back into Newport Workshops.
