Not really a gimmicky setup, unless you count my using EXP to EX. Cecil's EX mode isn't as abusive as, say, Cloud's for this fight, as it doesn't actually make his attacks easier to land. It just grants a x1.5 multiplier to his base damage and, what I cared about most, allows him to switch between his DRK and PLD forms at will. I wanted to do a flashy run, and switching up jobs on the go sounded like fun.

The other reason why I wanted EX mode for the job switch effect is because each job was better at punishing different attacks. As you'd expect, DRK Cecil deals better with Feral Chaos's ground attacks, while PLD Cecil counters his aerials and a few ground HPs like Quo Vadis and Via Dolorosa. Not having to use an HP attack first makes countering much easier. Besides, Dark Step and Paladin Arts are both quite mediocre in this fight.

I know some people prefer Luminous Shard spam for this fight, but I'm not fond of its vertical range. I went with Shadow Bringer because of how insanely fast it is. It's quite possible to just dash in and nail Feral Chaos with it, so long as you're confident you're in range. The fact that it does brave damage and guarentees wall rush also helps.
