Here are two butterfly offerings for you.
The first is a verse that I demonstrate three different ways--first with just movements, second with a silk for the cocoon and wings and third as a burrito roll.

If you're not familiar with a burrito roll (as a sensory integration tool, not a meal!), you use a cotton cloth or a sheet or blanket and roll the child up--I demonstrate in the video. I used to use this in my classroom if one of the children was getting out of themselves--a little wild or just unable to find their center. I wrapped them in a cotton play cloth, making sure to not wrap around their head or neck. I lay the cloth on the floor and they would lay on top if it, then I would roll them up and end up with them face up. Most of the children loved it. If they didn't want to stay, I just let them out. Pretty much everyone wanted to be the taco and everyone else helped with the toppings (you'll have to wait for the next video to see that!). But in this one, the wrap is the cocoon and you can extend the song or make up a story to let them stay in the cocoon a little longer before becoming butterflies.

The words (Please use your preferred pronouns--I use "he" for this one):

The verse:

A caterpillar climbed to the top of a tree.
"I think I'll take a nap," said he.
So under a leaf he began to creep
And he spun a cocoon and fell asleep.
All winter he slept in his cocoon bed,
Until Spring came along one day and said,
"Wake up, wake up little sleepy head.
Wake up! It's time to get out of bed."
Then he opened his eyes on that sunshiny day,
And, lo, he was a butterfly and flew away.

The song:

Come bright butterfly close to me,
Your beautiful wings I should like to see.
You fly like a bird, you sip like a bee,
But you're really a flower the wind set free.

That's it for today. Thanks for stopping by!
