4 Steps to Efficient Gravity Flow Storage Products Shipping & Handling

Long, bulky materials are a fixture in the world of material handling. Gravity flow storage products included. However, unlike solid steel rack pieces, gravity-flow rails and conveyor pieces need a bit more care when unloading at the installation site to ensure that everything remains in perfect condition.

Unloading Mallard Custom Gravity Flow Crates

End Handling
1. Locate the lifting points
2. Enter crate with forks parallel to the floor
3. Lift crate 6”-8” tilt mast back
4. Back out of trailer dragging the front corner of the crate

Most crates will arrive on the shipping trailer with the end of the crate exposed for the forklift. Watch our video and follow the steps above to disembark the shipment safely.

Once the crate is in your facility, if you have to move it, follow our instruction for Side Handling to ensure a balanced, safe load.

Side Handling
1. Locate the center lifting points
2. Adjust forks to the proper width to fit the load
3. Enter crate with forks parallel to the floor
4. Lift crate 6”-8” tilt mast back

Caution Wide Load
Additional forklift safety tips for driving with a long load:
• Be aware of the wide turning radius and move slowly and deliberately to ensure safe delivery.
• Remember that the stability of the forklift is directly affected when securing long loads. A load that extends in front of the vehicle changes the center of gravity and reduces the lift capacity.
• Load should rest against load backstop or shank.
• Fork length must be at least 2/3 the length of the load.
