My Resilient Oceana Orangequat Thrives in my cold UK Garden One of the toughest citruses I have growing here in my UK garden is the Oceana Orangequat (Satsuma mandarin X Meiwa kumquat) I bought in August 2020, moved out into the garden from our unheated greenhouse at the end of May 2021.
It endured the deep freeze to -8C and snow in December 2022 and the frosty nights to -6C in January 2023 without any protection.
It fruited in 2023 and held on to many of its fruits over winter 2023 -2024 right up to now. Unfortunately, many of the fruits were lost to garden pests leaving only one fruit that’s now looking fully ripened.
