Originally appearing in the third generation of Nintendo and Game Freak's mainline Pokémon games, Breloom is a Grass and Fighting-type Pokémon, serving as the evolved form of Shroomish. This Mushroom Pokemon could stretch its short arms to throw punches, in addition to being able to distract any of its opponents using its poisonous spores. Breloom, who is also noted to be as skilled in fighting as professional boxers, makes its debut in BattleCapacity's fighting fangame Pokemon: Close Combat during the version 10 update, originally released around May 2024. Here, Breloom serves as a mid-ranged zoner, with several long range attacks, good mobility, and even the ability to heal itself with some of its moves.

Breloom has three (technically five) options for zoning. Seed Bomb (B) has Breloom swing its tail, throwing a projectile in an upwards arc (which could be adjusted to be shorter by pressing 4B). It also doubles as a combo ender if done up close, dealing slightly more damage. Breloom could also do this attack mid-air - Seed Raid (j.B) has Breloom swing its tail downwards, throwing a similar projectile towards the ground. Perfect for punishing some anti-air attempts from the opponent, or to safely pressure the opponent from approaching. Besides that, Breloom could also do Drain Clutch (6B), where it extends its arms, grabs the opponent, and drains their health. It's pretty unsafe on block and is difficult to combo to due to how it cannot be cancelled from most attacks, but the healing that comes with landing this move makes doing this attack worth it. Drain Clutch also has an EX variant in the form of Drain Dart (623B), dealing more damage while draining more health.

Other notable attacks include Shroom Blast (2B), where Breloom jumps, slams its tail, and plants a Shroomish on the ground. Shroom Blast is a safe-on-block attack useful for blockstring pressure, even more so when you do this move again while Shroomish is active (causing it to shoot out spores). Its super attack, Spore Cannon (41236B, uses two bars), has Breloom shoot out a slow-moving, multi-hitting spore cloud that's active until it goes offscreen (even on hit), which is useful for pressuring the opponent or doing setups. This is of course not mentioning some of its normals, including 6AAA, a flurry of long-range jabs that could be cancelled into 623B on hit.

Breloom is a pretty weird character to play as. I often find its zoning quite limiting, as Seed Bomb's trajectory and startup could leave Breloom wide open. While Drain Clutch's trajectory is straight and is overall more useful, it's also unsafe on block (as I mentioned) and limited in range. This makes dealing with certain opponents such as the CPU-only secret boss Gorochu difficult due to the latter's fast movements and attacks - I actually had to rely on spamming Seed Raid to trick the CPU from trying to directly hit me.
