Classic 1978 BMW R100S Walkaround. Sport or Sport Touring Motorcycle?

I have owned a number of air-cooled, Boxer BMW motorcycles over the years and always had a soft spot for them. Easy to work on, dependable, great parts availability (for an 46 year old motorcycle) and they just do the job well. I was recently at Daytona Bike Week and had no bike to ride. So when I saw this one for sale at the AMCA swapmeet at what seemed a very reasonable price, I bought it.
It seems to be a fairly low mileage model in good condition. The gas tank is not as faded as the rest of the bike as it has had a tank cover on for most of its life. I checked the oil levels, tire pressure and filled the gas tank with some Seafoam and rode it back to the house.
The tires had little wear but had hardened with time, And it seemed to run better with every mile. I plan to mount up a fresh set of tires and do a complete service and then put lots of miles on this old beast. Thanks to the OEM BWM saddlebags and back rack, it can be just as happy as a local around town bike as an open road touring motorcycle. You simply must love the old airhead BMWs.
