Here is of my full playthrough of Ardy LIghtfoot done, as always using original hardware on a Super Nintendo with no cheats or save states!

Follow me on instagram @Cabin_game_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.

-The obvious bonus of tailoring your collection to only include the better half of a systems library, needs no explanation, still, even using this barometer for quality, my own research isn't always accurate and often curiosity plays a role in games acquisition! So in reality, a library of 200 snes games was never going to be all peaches and cream, and it certainly hasn't been, however no matter how many times a game bulldozers me, I never seem to learn the simple golden rule... You cannot judge a games difficulty by its cover!

A quick glance at this incredibly good looking platformer, should rightly promote a feeling of casual gameplay. Certainly it was intended to be that way, sadly tho, despite everything Ardy Lightfoot does well, it sacrifices horribly in fundamental errors!

What's the primary function of a Platformer? When titles like Mario demonstrate so effortlessly the basics for delivering good jump mechanics, it pains me to have to repeatedly play imitations that fail so spectacularly in comparison.

I wont overlook what this game does well. It really is one of the most rewarding titles on the eye the genre has to offer, its also boasts some fun ideas, boss fights and overall aesthetics, but those controls...argh!

Remember Duck Tales & the Pogo Stick attack? Remember how easy and fun that mechanic is? Well imagine how hard it would to completely fuck that up? Somehow they managed it here! Rather than simply hold B or down & B to activate, you have to jump with B and then double tap & hold B while still in the air? IN GODS NAME WHY? you have 4 other unused buttons FFS! I'll stress this ridiculous mechanic even eluded me right until the final boss (after being forced to google it) believing before that you could only activate the pogo jump from a jump that didn't use the Dpad. It's a fundamental mechanic of the game, it should not feel like a cheat code!

Combine slippy controls, bad edge detection and some of the worst 'fall through platform' bullshit I've ever seen, and you have a recipe for a platformer without any of the basics ingredients to make it work.

That said I actually quite enjoyed it 😄🤣
