The publisher rode the popularity of the 1940s super-hero golden age as Timely Comics, reinvented itself as a publisher of sci-fi, horror and suspense in the 1950s as Atlas Comics, and again rebranded itself as Marvel just in time to usher in a new era with Fantastic Four #1. Through the decades, it has seen great success, sued for bankruptcy, then clawed its way back to become a media juggernaut. This is the history of Marvel Comics.
