Otis Rush Easy Go, How Long Can this Go On Lesson by Johnny Burgin

Western New York blues guitarist Pete Worden is my special guest this week. Pete's well known in the Buffalo area and has put out some great singles on YouTube, check them out! We play a bit of Easy Go by Otis Rush at the beginning of this video. Easy Go is a great rearrangement of the Junior Parker song How Long Can this Go On. Definately check out the original version and Earl Hooker's standard tuning slide version. I discuss how Otis plays the melody, and how Earl Hooker plays it. Yes, this is just about too much stuff for one video! Then I talk about a theme/variation approach to improvising to 'chunk it up' and make it less like jumping off a cliff. So to sum it up: learn the original melody, then try it in some different ways, and then try soloing with a basic theme for each 12 bar go around. Once you get the hang of that, you can experiment breaking the theme towards the end of each 12 bar go around and see where THAT takes you!
