Did you know that some characters from the famous Chinese Zodiac myth, which was about the Jade Emperor’s great race to determine the order of the animal years, appear in the games deities to help you out? Completing Chen Loong’s quest in Chapter 3 unlocks “Zodiac” Village, where you discover familiar faces from earlier chapters and new characters tied to the original zodiac story.

First is Shen Monkey, the gourd merchant, who placed 9th in the race. Then there’s Xu Dog the plug, your source for celestial and mortal medicines, who came in 11th. Yin Tiger, the village blacksmith, ranked 3rd, and Chen Loong, the loong who helps grow crops and ingredients, placed 5th.

Chen Loong’s lorepage suggests they were banished to the mortal realm due to ties with Sun Wukong. It’s hinted that Erlang Shen may have sent them to assist the eventual Destined One,who will be Sun Wukong’s true successor from their plan.

Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology. The story is based on Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. You shall set out as the Destined One to venture into the challenges and marvels ahead, to uncover the obscured truth beneath the veil of a glorious legend from the past.
