Race Across Duluth 2024 - Mountain Biking 45 miles

Mountain bike trails in Duluth, MN are awesome and COGGS, does a fantastic job supporting them and creating events for the trails. The Race Across Duluth is no different. The second running of the event was awesome! The course runs through the single track through the city starting in the east end at Lester Park and ending at Chamber Grove Park to the west with about 45 miles in between and about 4500' of elevation gain during the ride. The weather was nice but, a little brisk for the start. It ended up being a fantastic day and I beat my time from last year by about 45 minutes with an average speed in the 7mph range which works for an old guy like me. The winners rode the course in just over 3 hours which is unbelievably crazy but, impressive! An average speed about double what I was running. No, they were not on ebikes.

I debated riding my ebike but opted for my Ibis Exie since that's what I ran last year and I wanted to compare times. I set quite a few PRs so that was cool. The race can be run with a chip timer or manual timed. I was into it for the competition and opted for manual timing and to ride at my own pace. I'm sure they'll run it again next year as it's definitely popular. If you're in the area, check it out! There were several support stops with food, drink, and mechanical support if needed. On a side note, I'll be riding the Ididaride in Live Oak, FL in January which is a similar ride of 50 miles but, it's not a race and really just a fun endurance ride.
