I have been doing this customers cars for about 4 years now and the last time I detailed this Lexus he order interior/exterior protection. I been working hard on him over the years trying to explain the benefits of decontaminating paint before applying protection but he always found a way around it. So when he finally relented a 1.5 years ago and I did a full detail on this car he told me he had made the right choices. Fast forward 1.6 years...I had a short phone conversation with customer before doing the job where he asked if I could come out and detail his car again. Me thinking okay full 3 stage decon etc. But instead I was given a list of things that wouldn't be done this time. No products on tyres and wheel arches and no decontamination. We went back and forth for awhile and I was able to convince him to put a ceramic coating on trim and windows to match paint protection. When applying long term paint protection I try to stick to the well established methods of cleaning/decontaminating the paint prior to application. But every now and then I get a job where even though I do my best to explain the benefits of decontamination to allow a good bond between wax/sealant/coating and paint sometimes budget constraints get in the way. Generally I can tell by the look on their face as I explain which way it's going to go. So with time / budget constraints I ripped in knowing this would be a close call whether I would have it ready on time.This car received full treatment around 1.5 years ago and the Fusso Coat/HTW combo applied back then was mainly still showing hydrophobic qualities. I don't judge customers who don't really understand the techniques or don't have the budget I just don't guarantee the longevity of the protection and get on with the job. So this car received a wash 50/50 Dish Detergent/Ct18 and IPA wipe down and a combo of Fusso Coat and Reload was applied. Now Fusso Coat can sometimes be a little rough to apply/remove but on this job it went on smooth as butter. I was wondering if that was because there was still some left from previous application. Yes I could see contaminants on the paint as I applied Fusso especially on the lower areas but I had my orders. Delux was applied to trim, metals and lights and Fly by Forte to windows. After letting the protection cure a little whilst I cleaned wheels, tyres, and arches I rolled the car back under cover and the Fusso/Delux was topped off with a coat of car Pro Reload. The customer was quite clear that he had to have car at a certain time and as I raced to finish on time he walked out right on schedule and said "Is it finished?" I replied " Yes I just want to blow some of the small leaves off and give it a last wipe with a thick polish cloth, 5mins at most. He said " I'll get your money and reappeared 1 min later paid me and jumped on his push bike and rode off saying over his shoulder " I'll be back in an hour put the keys back on the table inside the door" I took a deep breath and put the keys back and thought about the wonders of the world.. . On another note I really don't like skinny steep driveways with overhanging trees....
