Perspectives from the LASTE study: Thrombectomy for stroke with a large infarct of unrestricted size

Описание к видео Perspectives from the LASTE study: Thrombectomy for stroke with a large infarct of unrestricted size

Vincent Costalat, lead researcher of the LASTE trial, discusses the study's surprising results and conclusions with Daniel Vela Duarte. They explore the inclusion criteria and the significant window of opportunity for treatment, emphasizing why brain imaging assessments should not exclude patients from treatment. The LASTE trial evaluates the efficacy and safety of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in patients with large ischemic strokes (ASPECTS 0-5) within 7 hours of onset. Despite traditionally being excluded from MT due to large baseline infarcts, recent studies suggest potential benefits. Vincent Costalat highlights how MT, combined with best medical treatment, could improve outcomes even for patients with substantial initial damage, challenging conventional exclusion criteria based on imaging.
