Dil Se.. released in Aug 1998 celebrated its 20th birthday recently had some memorable work by the whizkid of the south A.R.Rahman who shares great bond with his Guru Mani Ratnam. Rahman composed score that I remember even after 20 years is not a joke. The soul stirring title score with an Assamese song followed by heart throbbing string sections is something I still remember humming while walking out of a theater. The opera style choir (don't know who is that artist) followed by bit song by Sukweender Singh is pleasure to listen to. The chorus theme during Sharukh's rendezvous Priety Zinta, horrific theme during terror attacks with heavy drums and so on..

Rahman's mastery was prominent in the usage of various wind instruments such as bass flute, bassoons, folk flutes issimply outstanding and commendable. For some reason Rahman did not use any of the rock and heavy metal or any of such western elements but kept things very native considering the mood of the film. Apart from BGM, this film's soundtrack is still playable today, though the movie was a miserable flop at the box office.
