DIR EN GREY - 鼓動 [eng sub] LIVE HD

Описание к видео DIR EN GREY - 鼓動 [eng sub] LIVE HD

"Kodō" is almost exclusively used to refer to one's heartbeat, however the word on its own means "pulsation" or "beat". This performance is from the TOUR16-17 FROM DEPRESSION TO ______ [mode of Withering to death] live.
Requested by Paula B, thank you! I had a blast translating this song and it might've been the first time I listened to it this intently and all I can say is it really resonated with me. I can imagine that it's very special to you, like you said.

Translation by me.

Annotations:

"All alone in my room I play my beat and scream" - The word for "beat" is "kodō", and as mentioned above, it usually refers to one's heartbeat. The verb that goes with it in this line however means "to play [an instrument, music]". I double checked that this isn't an established expression, but simply an artistic choice of words on Kyo's side. Maybe to "play one's [heart]beat" simply means to keep living, is something I personally thought, but make of this line what you will.

"Suppress your voice - cover your eyes" - I feel like I hear Kyo sing the imperative instead of just the te-form from the lyrics ("korose" instead of "koroshite", "fusage" instead of "fusaide"). That would add more strength and urgency to these lines.
Also, it literally does say "suppress your voice", but this usually means "to suppress one's cries".

"I can't rely on anyone anymore" - This is one of the lines that will inevitably take some interpretation, but clearing stuff like this up is what the annotations are for. It actually only says "I can't rely anymore", so this might refer to "anyone" in a general sense, or it could be translated as "I can't rely on you anymore" and would still be correct.
Also, "rely" not as in "trust", but as in "depend".

"Your sharp voice into my heart... And everything into darkness" - The verb is what's left out so as to be vague in Japanese as well. It could be "And [I put] everything into darkness", or "And everything [shall go] into darkness" etc. ...

"I can't hold back anymore" - More literally this word means "to stop", but in relation to feelings it's used as "to hold back [tears, feelings,...]".

---------------
I do not own Dir En Grey or any of their music or performances.
I translate for fun and wanted to share this translation.

Thank you for watching!
