A Love Letter to Education | Stuart Rimmer | TEDxNorwichED

Описание к видео A Love Letter to Education | Stuart Rimmer | TEDxNorwichED

Stuart Rimmer writes a love letter to an education system and a relationship that has lost its way, exploring the need to change; asking both parties to stand back and think what’s best for our new emerging 21st century future. He suggests we have been disconnected from teaching some of the necessary skills that it takes to be happy human beings.

What if the main purpose of education was to improve wellbeing, build resilience and increase happiness? Technical skills development is important, even vital, but it is simply not sufficient anymore. This is a challenge to return to authentic educational values and ask what do Gen Z really need to discover their passions, characters, and to thrive.

This talk is an invitation to restart the conversation for now, to think and act differently, shifting our focus of education to helping people be well, hold improved self-possession and self -leadership, and be happier. Ultimately better prepared for our modern world.

Stuart Rimmer is a college principal in the east of England, having worked extensively across the further education sector. He is a passionate commentator for the need for educational change and the integration of wellbeing, resilience development and improving mental health outcomes for students. Stuart also works as a business performance coach and is currently writing a book entitled ‘The Inner Mountain: A coached guide to personal leadership, wellbeing and resilience” advocating the opportunities of taking responsibility and leading oneself within a values led framework, using ancient wisdom and modern positive psychology to support positive change.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
