Tuba Bass Line

As all of you probably know, most of the materials I teach to beginning students during the first couple years of their instruction are compositions I have written myself. I teach three levels of Tuba Baseline. The first level is one page, with single notes in the LH. The second level expands to two pages. For the third level I added a modulation for the repeat of the theme, then I added octaves at the end, which is what you hear in this recording.

The chord structure is very simple. I am essentially just using primary chords, although at the very end I do add a bit of what musicians talk about with the term "secondary dominance". The essential idea of the music is extremely simple, but even simple music no longer feels simple when you speed it up a great deal, so my students find the last page to be quite challenging because of the speed of the piece.
